My favorite pieces of art
Art is so beautiful. In all shapes and forms. But this post is all about visual art. The art of seeing, the art of feeling some great emotion wash over you like The Great Wave off Kanagawa or make you think about fluid dynamics like Van Gogh’s Starry Night does. Basically in my dream house, these are the paintings I would have hanging up.
I’ve already named a few, but let me take you on a journey of my favorite pieces of art.
Pez Dispenser, 1984: Jean-Michel Basquit
- The painting reminds me of a lot of things…
- Namely Louis the Child, one of my favorite electronic dance music duos. With the famous crown that is their logo, this is Basquit’s iconic signature.
- The glory of power is all encompassed in this one object, and dinosaurs were once the kings of the Earth. Well it just goes to show that the bigger they are, the harder they fall.
The Starry Night, 1889: Vincent Van Gogh
- I just want to be there in person to view this sky.
- The swirls and gigantic stars would be enough for my eyes for a hundred years.
- The way that the sky just melts with itself makes me day dream.
The Great Wave off Kanagawa, 1829–1833: Hokusai
- Don’t you just love how the wave appears to be claws, fighting to swallow the boats who are so bravely trying to cross this angry sea?
- It reminds me of the struggle that so many have to travel to new places, being attacked by so many obstacles who want them to fail.
The Great Wave off Spring Fling, 2018 (colorized): Ostagram.com
- And then this masterpiece was created by teaching a neural network to merge The Great Wave off Kanagawa and myself chilling on a nice day during University of Pennsylvania’s Spring Fling Festival.
- How computing has changed the world of art so beautifully. You thought the human mind was creative, just give a computer trillions of possibilities and it can come up with some amazing stuff.
The Works of Rene Magritte:
The Portrait
The Lovers
The Empire of Light
Free Form, 1946: Jackson Polluck
- Jackson Polluck’s work are a contradiction in the way the world works. His paintings seem like random blotches of paint everywhere. However, its not about the content. It’s about the idea.
- His style was so different that it was beautiful. He did something different and was praised for it.
- Nobody can be like him, and people should stop trying. He did himself and that was good. More than good if I must say.
Rivulets, 2018: Yvette Young
- This one is a very recent painting done by Yvette Young a proud member of my favorite record label, bitbird, run by SAN HOLO and friends.
- It was fun to watch her paint this and the painting comes across as curtains, with thick lines of paint going down the canvas creating an awesome wavy texture.
Well that’s most of them, I think. Sometimes they really get jumbled up in my head. I hope you enjoyed and maybe some of these can become your favorites too! Although I hope you don’t copy all of them…
